On November 5th Montreal elected its first woman mayor, Valerie Plante. I was volunteering that day and spent a couple of hours in the De l’Eglise Metro handing out voting reminders. Later on another volunteer and I were knocking on doors after 7pm (polls closed at 8). We were motivated by a powerful belief that if we got the vote out we could win. And a couple of hours later when everyone with Projet Montreal was gathered on Notre Dame Street West at the Corona Theatre and Burgundy Lion pub, it was announced to incredible waves of joy by those assembled that Valerie Plante had won!!
And that is my personal short version of a great day in Montreal history!
