Montreal Bicycle Map 1897

Thanks to Les over at Verdun Connections for posting this beauty. Lest anyone believes that bicycling is some kind of new trend in Montreal please keep in mind that Montreal was a bicycle city before cars were even invented!

And here is a link back to a post that shows good old Verdun’s “velodome” at Queen’s Park circa 1897.

  1. And Guy over at Verdun Connections made this comment that I really like, “Verdun was at the forefront of bicycling as the bicycle clubs would make tours from Montreal by taking Upper Lachine road to Lachine and would return by taking Lower Lachine Road (LaSalle Blvd).”

Verdun always was a great city for outdoor and sporting types and, well, we can say that that tour is still available today through the bike path system in the SudOuest! Verdun, City Of Bicycles, yea!

Now we just have to tear down Bosse’s condos and reclaim the waterfront for everyone! 🙂
