Volunteers Needed For Griffintown Nuit Blanche!

Hi, everyone —

We’re needing MORE volunteers for this Saturday’s Nuit Blanche festivities at New City Gas. With this being Reading Week, my students at the university are not very available so I’m turning to you to ask that you forward the message below to anyone you think might be interested. Bring your friends!!

Anyone who wishes to volunteer should ideally contact me in advance OR can simply come to the site meeting this Thursday at 5 p.m., if the timing does not allow for an e-mail in advance.

(Désolée que ça soit uniquement en anglais: mon français ne me permet pas une traduction correcte!)

With thanks,

Kathleen

Greetings, friends —

Here’s an exceptional opportunity to volunteer in Montreal arts community, hobnob with creative folk from all disciplines at the hub of Montreal’s “Cultural Corridor”, and give your Nuit Blanche (Feb 27/28) outings a special focus.

The Event: Nuit Blanche at New City Gas (140 & 141 Ann St. in Griffintown — near Peel & Wellington), Saturday, February 27th from 1 p.m. to February 28th at 2 a.m.

New CIty Gas, built between 1859 and 1861 and representing the best of Montreal’s industrial heritage, now transformed into mixed use including artists’ studios, will host an impressive array of arts events — dance, visual arts, live poetry readings, music, multimedia installations, sculpture, film (including some short and longer features located at this site over the many years), and more.

“More” includes lectures about the importance of this neighbourhood (past and present) to Montreal’s arts and culture, displays and talks by local notables and community volunteers, a café and refreshments area, and a silent disco!

The whole extraordinary line-up can be found at:
http://www.griffintown.org/corridorculturel/nuitblanche/

The Opportunity: Volunteer for a 3 hour shift

We need volunteers to act as doorkeeps (count visitors for our Nuit Blanche sponsors), information givers, event announcers, display table fill-ins, assistants at the café and on the exhibit/performance floors, etc.

We ask that you commit to a specific 3-hour shift and to coming to an orientation meeting on Thursday, February 25th, at 5:00 p.m.

The Payoff: Karmic points plus…

You’ll get to a front row seat for exceptional art and live performance live, the chance to make a real difference to a community-based arts event — and still have plenty of time to enjoy other Nuit Blanche festivities elsewhere in the city. Plus…free coffee for the duration of your shift!

All of us involved with the New City Gas events are volunteering our time, work, and energy for this one special night: won’t you join us for NB@NCG?

To find out more or express your interest, please contact me,

Kathleen
