Pruned posted this article about clashing attitudes amongst runners, bikers, and dog walkers in New York’s Central Park. Here we have the Lachine Canal which can get pretty packed at times.

With the Turcot Interchange in the background, here is a cool photograph and story from Johnny Day.

I could have lost Holly yesterday
Grooming by Chien Chic Dog on Queen Mary and by Me ;o)
The Lachine water canal in Montreal is our new stumping grounds , it has a Piste cyclabe ( bike path ) that can be dangerous to dogs but it also has a four lane boulevard next to it at some points , Holly and me were playing with a Kong Ball which bounces like a super ball .
We were walking in between the canal and the blvd , i threw the ball it hit a rock and made a 90 degree and headed straight through four lanes of traffic and Holly proceeded to follow the ball ,
I didn’t even take the time to see if cars were coming or not that I yelled STOP as loud as I could , and Holly jumped on the brakes right away , it saved her life , not one but a multitude of cars flew by , I didn’t count how many cuz my heart had stopped .
I often trained Holly on what I consider the most important command she will ever know , and that command is STOP
I often in the past trained her after 1,2 3 seconds after throwing the ball to stop dead in her tracks , and that training paid off yesterday , I saw the importance of it four years ago when I saw we were living in the city playing in parks surrounded by high traffic street and highways .
I hug Holly for at least 10 minutes after the incident and kick myself in the ass for the next few hours for being so stupid to throw the ball in such a location in the first place
Teaching your dog to Stop , might be the very best command they will ever learn
PS : Holly hasent seen me with a camera in my hands for quite a while and insisted to be in front of it today when I was trying to capture those sunrays , her name aint Holly Wood fur nuthing ;o).
