Winter Wonderland

Well, it sure looks like I at least got to see one large scale project at Turcot Yards that has made the whole journey more than worthwhile. Who would have thought that turning it into a snow dump would have done the trick? The main snowpile runs about 2/3 the length of the yards. I have never seen anything quite like it before. I really think the people that snowblow the snow up there are having a great time. That’s a job I would love!

  1. Were the yards ever ‘fully’ decontaminated after they were abandoned by CN? And if not I can only wonder how nasty the runoff will be when all this snow melts right through spring 2008… 1 part road melting compound + 1 part train oils = yum.

Should have a poll on when the last bits of blackened snow melt away this year… I say June 1st 2008.

  2. No decontamination has taken place at all. They paved it over in the early 60’s for the transformation from rail yard to container yard so there is tons of crap under the asphalt.

I would say June 11. But they will probably bulldoze it to encourage melting at some point, so it might be gone by May 15.
